Finalist Spotlight: Ethan Thompson, Barratt Homes

Ethan Thompson, Barratt Homes

We’ve got some fantastic construction industry individuals to recognise this year, including Apprentice of the Year Finalist, Ethan Thompson.

Applying for a position after leaving school, Ethan has now been working for Barratt Homes as a carpenter/joiner for two years. Like many in his position, his interest in construction started at a young age.

“From a young age, I was interested in making things and construction toys. I then moved on to household DIY and quickly realised that my future lay in carpentry and joinery. My biggest inspiration has been my grandad. He taught me the basics and shared his passion for the trades.”

And how does Ethan feel about being nominated for Apprentice of the Year?

“I was shocked when I first heard the news about being put forward for apprentice of the year but then quickly realised what a privilege it is to be nominated for such a prestigious award. I would be honoured and excited to win the trophy and my family would be very proud.

“I hope to inspire other apprentices and those entering the industry. I’d say that you need to ask as many questions as possible even if you think they may sound silly. Pay attention to your tutors and mentors, don’t be afraid to try and work hard. And mostly, get stuck in!”

Will Ethan be the Apprentice of the Year for 2020? You’ll find out at our virtual ceremony on 9 October 2020. Individual tickets are £25 + VAT, or you can buy a package of 10 for £250 + VAT. Get in touch to book your tickets.
