Finalist Spotlight: JKR Contractors

Nominated for Best Trades Business (11+ employees), we are delighted to welcome JKR Contractors – their first time as a Trades Awards finalist. Director, Kevin Taylor told us more about what sets JKR Contractors apart.

Congratulations on your first shortlisting for Best Trades Business (11+ employees). How does it feel, and what would it mean to win?

“We are extremely proud to be selected as a finalist for this award. To win this award would be recognition for our employees who have shown great loyalty and worked extremely hard throughout the years, playing a huge role in the success of our business. We are a groundworks/civils company which isn’t automatically given the same recognition as more widely known trades like joiners, plumbers, electricians etc., making it difficult to attract young persons into the industry. To win the Trades Awards would shine a spotlight on our profession and bring it to the forefront, not just for our company but for others in the same profession.”

What have been some of the big highlights for the JKR team this past year?

“There have been many, but two stand out. Firstly, the award of the Baldovie Energy from Waste project in Dundee. This is the largest project we have been awarded with a value to JKR of £10 million. This project involves a 40 metre high concrete structure. This is the first concrete structure project of this scale we have been involved in and has been a great learning curve.

“Secondly, is the £9 million contract award from Bancon Homes for their Kinion Place development. This is the largest single-phase housing development of its kind undertaken by Bancon Homes to date and we are delighted to be entrusted to deliver the full infrastructure for this development.”

Exciting times ahead! What is the most important thing when delivering projects such as these?

“The most important thing we aim to provide is a cost effective, top quality service resulting in customer satisfaction. We provide a service where we look into the design early on and suggest alternatives in design or change of material spec. Due to the scale of the works we are involved in, this can potentially offer the client huge savings but still delivers to the client a quality job with little impact on the overall design. This allows us to offer a lump sum package which gives our customers cost certainty. Combined with the quality of our work, this has played a huge part in why we get repeat business and client referrals.”
