Finalist Spotlight: Trade Secrets
With their shop opening in October 2018, Trade Secrets is a business that has lots of great plans for the future. We spoke to Scott from Trades Secrets to find out more about them and how they would feel to win Best New Business at this year’s Trades Awards.
You’re up for Best New Business. What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
“As a typical start-up, we had nothing in place so every day has been like a school day. We have the technical experience regards paint but finding a shop and then running one along with getting customers through the door was all new for us. The biggest lesson so far has to Be Patient and don’t forget to look back and reflect on what has been achieved along with celebrating your successes. The key has been to focus on getting the basics right i.e. having the right team, products, processes etc in place and most importantly if we make mistakes, make sure we learn from them.”
What does good customer service mean to you?
“Good customer service to us is so critical and the foundation to everything we do. Ultimately, our end goal is to create an experience for our customers that is unique from our competition and surpasses their expectations. It’s about ensuring we listen to our clients’ needs and challenges and we can help them solve their problems through our products and knowledge sharing.”
What does the future look like for Trade Secrets?
“Our aim is to be the go-to shop/on-line store for decorators and the general public. Our short to medium terms goals are to continue to expand our product lines further, we are nearly there but just have a couple of areas such as wood stains, Osmo oils, and wallpaper pastes which we hope will be in before we hit the summer. To launch our new website so our customers can view all our products in the comfort of their homes with the aim to expand into an on-line offering as well as our shop. Finally, the one we are most excited about is creating a training centre so we can support local youngsters and professionals gain a passion for decorating and to see this as a profession to be proud of.”
How would it feel to win the Trades Award for Best New Business?
“Being shortlisted as a finalist feels like we are winners already being honest but if we were to win on the night we would be blown away. It would give further validation that the hard work and effort from the team is being recognised and that people outside Trade Secrets can see the value in what we are trying to offer to the North East. It would just be truly amazing.”
