Annual Trades Awards Celebrates 10th Year

Construction industry organisations and individuals are being invited to submit applications for this year’s Trades Awards 2022

Construction industry organisations and individuals are being invited to submit applications for this year’s Trades Awards 2022. Applications are now open for the industry awards ceremony, which will occur in person this year at Ardoe House, Aberdeen, on Friday 28th October. Entry is free, and applications close on Friday 1st July.

The Trades Awards also celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2022 and has chosen MND Scotland as its charity beneficiary for the event. The Trades Awards are organised by local creative marketing agency Mearns & Gill and were launched in 2012 to reward and recognise individuals, teams, and businesses within the North East construction industry. The awards ceremony celebrates its tenth year and invites applications from businesses across all disciplines within construction, from sole traders right up to national construction businesses with a head office in the North East. The 2022 event sees main award sponsor Stewart Milne Group return for the 8th consecutive year and supporting sponsor W M Donald, who has supported the event for 6 years.

With 14 award categories available to enter, including ‘Apprentice of the Year’, ‘Tradesperson of the Year’, ‘Sustainability in Construction’ and ‘Construction Project of the Year’, there are many opportunities for businesses of all sizes to share their success story.

“The purpose of The Trades Awards has always been to celebrate and recognise these people and companies, and we will do that in style this year as we also celebrate 10 years of the awards.”

– Mike Wilson, Managing Director at Mearns & Gill

Mike Wilson, Managing Director at Mearns & Gill says, “We are excited to be back live and in-person this year for what will be the 10th annual Trades Awards. When the event was launched in 2012, it was because there was a space in the market for celebrating all the incredible work carried out by the construction industry. Commending these organisations and individuals who contribute so much to the North East economy and lives of people in Scotland seemed the right thing to do and it continues to be hugely welcomed by the industry.”

Mike continues, “The purpose of The Trades Awards has always been to celebrate and recognise these people and companies, and we will do that in style this year as we also celebrate 10 years of the awards. We are proud to have chosen MND Scotland as the beneficiary of the event as it is a charity very close to our hearts.”

Trades Awards 2021 took place in October last year as a live, online event broadcast from a custom-built studio at Mearns & Gill. Over 400 guests took part in the celebrations that saw winners give their acceptance speeches in small groups from living rooms, kitchens, and boardrooms around the North East, with one winner, Liberty Fitting, streamed live from Canada.

Talking of his 2021 award win, Mark Conacher of Liberty Fitting and winner of the ‘Home/Building Improvement’ award says, “It was a great feeling. The overall emotion was pride, I think. I looked upon it as a nod that we’re on the right path as a company!”

Neil Thomson, Deputy Managing Director, Stewart Milne Homes Scotland, says, “Having been involved in the event since its formation and the Stewart Milne Group being the main sponsor for 8 years, we have watched the Trades Awards evolve and build year on year. We continue to support the event fully and what it stands for. The Stewart Milne Group looks forward to celebrating with all worthy organisations and individuals being recognised on the 28th of October and can’t wait to be back in person.”

Elaine Donald of W M Donald says, “The Trades Awards celebrates talented individuals, top teams, and company achievements. Construction is such a fast-paced and busy industry; it is so important that we take time out to recognise and award these people. Over the past two years, during which we faced unprecedented challenges, the industry has continued to excel and drive forward. October’s ceremony is the perfect chance to highlight the skills, experience and best practice that continues to be shown within the construction industry in the North East Scotland. We wish all applicants the best of luck and are proud to be the supporting sponsor again.”
